The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been taking over the nation’s social media platforms, and the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) has called upon all of its members to participate.

The ALS Ice bucket Challenge requires nominees to pour a bucket of ice water over their heads to raise funds and awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Nominees have the choice to donate to ALS research and/or complete the Challenge within 24 hours and then nominate others. As of Friday, Aug. 22, ALSA.org says the ALS Association has received $53.3 million in donations compared to $2.2 million during the same time period last year – July 29 to Aug. 21.

Watch the video below to see Jeffrey Fowler, STMA board of directors academic representative, and Little League World Series grounds crew members get soaked. The STMA is asking all members who complete the Challenge to share and alert the STMA’s social media channels.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
